James Brennan’s new book wonderfully expands the Sryftwood universe. It’s a unique take on the traditional fantasy races that sets apart this series from other fantasy series. Midnight in the Delta is a prequel that takes place 150 years for the events in the first three books. This could be standalone but I did appreciate reading the original trilogy first. This book follows Mira, a dark elf mercenary, who takes on a perilous job that takes place in her homeland, the swamp delta. The action is gripping and the plot advances in a good manner.

This is a wonderful start to a trilogy. If you've ever played D&D or any other RPG, you are going to absolutely love this book. If you haven't played, you will still greatly enjoy this little piece of fantasy western as a cool story. But as a gamer, there are great little references and scenes that just take you back to the table. The characters are fun, their development is rich, and the setting that Mr. Brennan has created for this book is truly marvelous. After I finished it, I wanted it to be made into a module so I could DM it!
Can't wait for the next ones!

Jeremiah is a hot off the presses newly graduated man of the law who has volunteered to go to one of the roughest known parts of the world to keep the magic use in check. He discovers once he gets there and tries to enter the city as a major enforcer, not every corner of the world values the written laws as much as where he’s from. The diversity of the cast of the book was wonderful, the way the different types of characters are woven together into the web that makes up the different communities as they exist and function in different places in the world kept me so interested.

This book was over far too quick. The story continues to surprise me, and there are some incredibly cool ideas here that I will be stealing for my next Dungeons and Dragons campaign

This was a great book. The characters were well thought out and compelling. Great imagery and a well put together story, 1st to the last page. I look forward to the rest of the trilogy.
